The Future of Asylum

On Saturday, April 29, CTA's Immigration and Borders Working Group hosted two dynamic speakers who will discussed the future of asylum, U.S. national policy, and humanitarian work at the U.S.-Mexican border.

Title 42, which for more than five years dictated the process of seeking asylum in the United States, expired in May. The Biden administration has sought to replace it with a new policy that, on its face, is a distinction without a difference from the illegal and inhumane practices and policies of the Trump administration. This event discussed Title 42 and the future asylum-seekers face.

About the Presenters:

Eleanor Acer is the director of the Refugee Protection Program at Human Rights First (HRF). She oversees HRF's research and advocacy on issues relating to refugee protection, asylum, and migrants’ rights. Eleanor will discuss what lies ahead in national policy and the law in the coming months.

Andrea Morris Rudnik is a member of Team Brownsville. Andrea has been working for many years with asylum seekers, particularly those beginning to travel to be family and sponsors while awaiting their immigration court date. Andrea will discuss current efforts at the border and the humanitarian needs as government policies potentially change.
