Humans need to live in partnership with the earth in order for us to live insocieties that are sustainable. But if humans do not live in families that are based on mutuality and if the Church is not acommunity of mutual relationships, we will not know how to have a partnership relationship with the earth. Present Church structures need to change to allow space for developing a partnership ethic.

If we are to say we are working for justice in our church and world, if we are to take seriously the call of our faith to care for other creatures and the land, if we are to be disciples of Laudato Si, if we are to unearth and claim the deep thread of the Old Testament that ties our well-being with the flourishing of the places that sustain us, then we must be in solidarity with Standing Rock.

The face and emphasis of the Church is changing. It is becoming less European/American and more Asian, African, and Latino/a. While dialoging and learning from my incredible colleagues at this conference, I have grown more hopeful and excited about the future of my Church.
