The Immigration Working Group of Call To Action invites you to a virtual gathering that will kick-off a letter writing campaign in opposition to Title 42 of the U.S. code. Title 42 was activated by the Trump administration and has been continued by the Biden administration. This policy has effectively prevented anyone crossing the U.S.-Mexico border from seeking asylum in the United States and has forced their return to Mexico. This is in violation of U.S. asylum law and has created a humanitarian crises in border Mexico.

This event will kick-off an Advent 2021 campaign of personal letter writing to President Joe Biden demanding that he terminate Title 42.

There will be two parts to the event:

  1. Felicia Rangel-Samponaro of the Sidewalk School will bring everyone up to date on the negative impacts of Title 42 and the current status of efforts to terminate it. She will also fill us in on her own work with the School.

  2. We will hold a workshop to flesh out the Title 42 issues to include in a letter/email to the president. Based on this activity, we will prepare a toolkit for all who want to participate in the campaign.

Joe Biden is a practicing Catholic and this is an opportunity to remind him of what the Gospel teaches about our obligations to marginalized communities.
