Order Celebrating Women Witnesses

In just two months over 800 people have sent for the Celebrating Women Witnesses resource packet. Theologian Elizabeth Johnson praised it for its “theologically liberating and spiritually nourshing fare.” Developed by FutureChurch in partnership with CTA, it contains essays and prayer services celebrating 12 historic women of faith who confronted patriarchal norms in the name of the gospel: Prisca, Mary of Nazareth, Dorothy Day, Teresa of Avila, Clare of Assisi, the Beguines, Angela Merici, Thea Bowman, Therese of Lisieux, Catherine of Siena, Sor Juana and Julian of Norwich. Many parishes and faith communities are planning monthly celebrations. An African American parish in Cleveland will hold a Thea Bowman celebration in June. One woman minister is using the resources to conduct prayer services for women in prison.
