Women in Church Leadership Dialogue underway nationally
The CTA/FutureChurch Call for National Dialogue on Women in Church Leadership (WICL), is attracting wide participation. Over 1,500 education/organizing packets have been sold in just four months. They have reached people in 42 states, including 10 bishops and eight diocesan offices, plus religious communities, universities and high schools. Project director, Sr. Chris Schenk, says nearly 200 follow-up phone calls by mid-August reveal that most participants are parish-based Catholics who want to do something concrete to advance women's equality in the Church. Some forward them to their bishops with personal letters, others print contents in parish bulletins, and use resources for young adult, bible and women's groups.
St. Mary Magdalen
The WICL-related July 22 special celebration of St. Mary Magdalen as Apostle to the Apostles was observed in at least 20 local communities across the U.S. Liturgy resources developed by CTA/FutureChurch were used by FutureChurch in Cleveland and by CTA regional groups in Chicago, Buffalo, Denver, Northern Virginia and Southern Illinois. Services were also held in New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Milwaukee, Raleigh, Omaha, San Antonio, and other cities.
