Campaign finance reform
The Dollars and Democracy Project, launched in February, as the first interfaith initiative on campaign finance reform (CTA News, April), has now conducted over 250 discussion groups in churches across Illinois and Ohio. Sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee and peace/justice offices of Chicago, Cincinnati and Cleveland dioceses, the project has also run larger town hall forums of 75 to 500 people in those three cities. Result? "A whole new set of people is now pushing local, state and federal officials for comprehensive reforms to bring honesty and fairness back to our political process," says Maureen Kelleher, Dollars and Democracy assistant coordinator in Chicago. Next step? To share knowledge and passion for reform with parishes and religious groups in other cities and states. Call Maureen Kelleher at 312 427-2533.
