Small Faith Community Snapshot

Name: Bon Secours Faith Community

Location: Grosse Pointe, Michigan, where the Sisters of Bon Secours started the Associate Membership Program.

When Started: 1982, when the Sisters of Bon Secours invited women who feel called to share in their mission through prayer and service.

Membership: about nine women, ages 40 to 80. Includes religious, ordained, single, married and widows. Mostly white, with one Oriental member.

Format: We generally gather on the second Saturday of the month, in the morning, in members' homes. Breakfast or brunch is hosted alternately by members followed by sharing of special events, book discussions, prayer and scripture readings. Rituals are usually held as part of prayer or special celebrations. Deep faith sharing happens spontaneously and the high trust level is experienced as we share our life experiences.

Biggest Benefits: Strong and deep bonds of trust among members with the freedom to be vulnerable and to share facets of spiritual growth and life journeys. Support, affirmation and acceptance contribute to mutual healing and encouragement from one other. Retreats and presence to one another are ongoing happenings. Resources: Scripture, books, different publications and members' own life experiences.

Quote:"The group has been a source of energy and joy for me. Not only do I embrace my humanity but I also am able to recognize that holiness is possible when I am with this group."
