CFM to mark 50th anniversary

Hundreds of present and former Christian Family Movement members are planning to gather July 1-4 at Notre Dame University to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the organization that pioneered the observe-judge-act technique for married couples. Patty Crowley, who with husband Pat led CFM for many years, will be on hand for the events, including talks by theologian Michael Crosby on the future of families and Jim and Evelyn Whitehead on sexuality and spirituality. Available will be a new book on the history of CFM titled "Disturbing the Peace."

CFM, which once numbered some 150,000 couples in 52 countries, has shrunk in the past 30 years. In the United States today it numbers about 2,000 member families in 125 parishes, but appears to be growing again. National co-executive directors for the past 14 years are Kay and Gary Aitchison of Ames, Ia. Many CTA members who first came to realize "We Are the Church" through their CFM experience are invited to renew old acquaintances and see where the movement is headed.
