Changes in CTA officers, board and staff

The CTA national board has new officers. Mary Ann Mueninghoff, OP, president since early 2000, has left the board. Replacing her are co-presidents Patty Hawk of Lincoln, Neb., and Paul Scarbrough of Norwalk, Conn. Hawk is chair of CTA Nebraska. Scarbrough is former head of Dignity New Haven and co-chaired the 1997 Dignity/USA national convention in Boston.

Mueninghoff gave CTA vibrant leadership, gifts for liturgy, and a deep commitment to diversity. She led the board during its 25th anniversary in 2001, with three national conferences and growth to 25,000 members. Since joining the board in 1986, this former director of the Sinsinawa Dominican Apostolic Volunteer Program helped CTA attract the Next Generation.

Also leaving the board are Terry Anderson after eight years and Bob McClory, a founding board member with over 20 years of service. Terry was board treasurer. Bob continues as associate editor of CTA publications. A huge thank you to Mary Ann, Terry and Bob!
Other new officers are Betsy Kennedy, secretary, Tamar Byczek, treasurer, and three vice-presidents who are leading the anti-racism project (click here to read about it).

Staff changes
Staff member Claire Noonan has left CTA to join the ministry staff at Loyola University Chicago, where she will direct student service projects, along with teaching and chaplaincy. In over three years with CTA, Claire was Social Justice and Next Generation Organizer, and since 2001 took a lead role on the sex abuse crisis, the Culture of Conversation, and media representation. Thank you, Claire, and Godspeed!

Replacing Claire in both church reform and Next Generation organizing is Crystal Chan. She worked as a campus organizer for an environmental action group in New Jersey, and before that, in youth ministry. She has a passion for the Vatican II vision of church and for "mobilizing young adults who feel the energy of these pivotal times." With a degree in international studies from Lawrence University, Crystal is proficient in French and Chinese.
New on staff since February is Jackie Walls, clerical assistant. Jackie commutes from Chicago's South Side, and says she loves working at CTA because it is "like a family." She is a veteran of several positions in Chicago city government, including three years in the Mayor's Office for Work Force Development, where she was in charge of summer jobs for youth, which employed as many as 7,000 young people each year.
