CTA, other reform groups meet with Bishop Fiorenza, NCCB president

A delegation from COR — Catholic Organizations for Renewal — met Sept. 11 with Bishop Joseph Fiorenza, NCCB President, and NCCB staff members. Participants were (from left) Sr. Chris Schenk, FutureChurch; Richard McCord, NCCB Secretariat for Family, Laity, Women and Youth; Dan Daley, CTA; Genevieve Chavez, Women's Ordination Conference; Fiorenza; J. Augustine Di Noia, OP, NCCB Secretariat for Doctrine; Mary Louise Hartman, Association for the Rights of Catholics in the Church; Bob Miailovich, Dignity/USA; Msgr. Dennis Schnurr, NCCB General Secretary; and Anthony Padovano, CORPUS. Agenda included issues of mutual interest dealing with lay ecclesial ministry, married priests, and the creation of a welcoming atmosphere for gay and lesbian people in the Church. These discussions will continue in the future. Periodic meetings between COR delegates and the NCCB began under Fiorenza's predecessor, Bishop Anthony Pilla.
