December 2000 Call to Action News

CTAers with 10,000 in SOA protest at Fort Benning

In the photo on the right, CTAer Maureen Kelleher of Chicago passes out "seeds of resistance” — kernels of corn planted by protesters Nov. 19 on the grounds of Ft. Benning, Ga. as part of the mass action to close the U.S. Army School of the Americas. Kelleher was one of over 2,000 arrested for civil disobedience, along with CTA national staffers Claire Noonan Bates and Carrie Maus. More than 3,600 of the 10,000 participants “crossed the line” and risked arrest.
