Renowned Children's Choir will make multicultural music at Chicago conference

CTA's Arts in Ministry referral program brings performing groups together with appreciative audiences. Here's a profile of a group who will grace the CTA Midwest National Conference in November.

Housed in Chicago's beaux-arts landmark Cultural Center, each year the Chicago Children's Choir brings together nearly 3,000 kids of many races and cultures to better understand each other by making beautiful music. From a handful of kids at a South Side church in 1956, CCC has grown to encompass 61 in-school choruses in 40 Chicago elementary schools, four after-school neighborhood choirs, and the 125-voice concert choir, which includes several ensembles, a madrigal group, and a show choir.

CCC has taken its multicultural repertoire to the White House, on national tours, and on tours to Japan, Russia, South Africa, and many European nations. At home, CCC has appeared with/for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Joffrey Ballet, the 1996 Democratic National Convention, White Sox and Bear games, on six television stations and the Oprah Winfrey Show.
