Getting Around

Newlyweds met on cta-hope
Meg Gorham from upstate New York and Rob Breen from Arizona first “met” in May 2002 on cta-hope, the online list-serv frequented by the young adults of CTA's Next Generation. They met face to face at the Next Gen retreat in Chicago two months later.

They fell in love. Rob had filed for an annulment. They began to plan a September 2003 wedding. Then the bureaucracy of the official church annulment process bogged them down. In June, the wedding plan had to be scrapped. They thought of settling for a civil ceremony, but having Eucharist in the Catholic community was too important. So they besieged the bureaucracy with phone calls and letters. The annulment finally came.

They were married Nov. 8 at St. Lucy's, Meg's progressive parish in inner city Syracuse. Ironic, isn't it? The parish priest and music minister couldn't be there: they were charging their progressive Catholic batteries at the CTA conference in Milwaukee. Meg told CTA News: “They have brought back terrific ideas and energy, including more liturgical dance and a call for optional celibacy! Thanks for sharing our unique story. We are very happily married one month. All with great thanks to CTA.”
