Sheila Daley moves from hospital acute care to rehabilitation wing

After over seven weeks in the hospital and multiple surgeries to repair a shattered shoulder, a broken hip and pelvis, many other broken bones and a bruised heart and lungs from a serious auto accident July 2, CTA co-director Sheila Daley was transferred Aug. 24 from the acute care section of Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, Ill., to the rehabilitation wing. No more tubes or beeping monitors. Regular food, catching up on television news, and lots of rest are the order of the day. Slowly she will ease into a comprehensive program of rehabilitation. This will continue for some weeks, and part of it will be handled on an outpatient basis while Sheila lives at home.

Sheila and Dan are deeply grateful to everyone in the Call To Action family nationwide who have been praying, sending healing energy, and writing notes of support. Continued messages are always welcome at www.caringbridge.org/visit/sheiladaley If you wish to send postal mail, please address it to the CTA office, 2135 W. Roscoe, 1N, Chicago IL 60618

(The letter below is from the week of July 10th)

Call To Action’s National Board and Staff are deeply saddened to share the news that Sheila Daley, Co-Director of Call To Action, has been in a serious car accident. Last week, her car was hit by a driver who crossed the line into oncoming traffic. She suffered several severe injuries and remains in serious condition. Gratefully, her doctors are confident that she will recover with time. While she suffered numerous broken bones, we are thankful that she does not have any head or spinal injuries and that her feisty spirit is already reemerging.

Sheila has dedicated her life to the cause of justice in our church, always thinking of others. At this time we ask for your prayers for Sheila and Dan Daley, her husband and CTA Co-Director, as they walk this path together. If you would like to send a thought or note of prayer to Sheila, or would like to learn more about her journey to recovery, we have set up the following website: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/sheiladaley

While Sheila recovers, her duties will be shared by Call to Action’s dedicated staff, board members and volunteers. They will also assist Dan, especially during these critical weeks following the accident, so he is free to spend time with Sheila during her recovery. Sheila and Dan have developed a very professional staff and can take comfort that Call to Action’s day to day business will run smoothly while Sheila recovers.

Although news of Sheila’s accident touches us deeply, the organization will carry forward with our work of justice, resting on the firm foundation that Sheila and Dan have provided and trusting in the Spirit of God to be with us in the journey. Again, we ask for your prayers and, as always, will keep you in ours.

Sincerely,

Dan Daley, Co-Director
