Lobbying Synod bishops: How you can help

Four delegates and two alternates will represent the U.S. bishops at the Eucharist Synod Oct. 2-23 in Rome. In each of their home dioceses — Spokane, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Erie, Pa. and Rapid City, S. Dak. — CTA and FutureChurch activists and other Catholic leaders will seek meetings with them, and will deliver nearly 30,000 petition signatures, asking them to make sure the priest shortage gets on the agenda. You can support them in several ways:

Write to bishop delegates

Send your own letters or e-mails to all six. (Names and addresses below.) Pledge your prayers for them during the synod and ask:

a. that they back our petition requests to the synod;

b. that we model our Eucharistic practice on Jesus’ inclusive table-sharing as described in the Gospels, especially Jesus’ concern and welcome for the poor and marginalized.

c. that we emphasize all the ways Christ's Real Presence is with us, not just in the sacred elements.
